Agreement signed for tech company to develop in the SmartZone District
Global company acquires local business, moves to keep operations in Mount Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich., June 6, 2017 – Enthalpy Analytical, LLC signed a memorandum of understanding with Central Michigan University Research Corporation indicating their intent to develop in the newly rezoned Mount Pleasant SmartZone District.
Enthalpy Analytical, LLC and Montrose Air Quality Services, LLC — subsidiaries of California-based Montrose Environmental Group, lnc. — recently acquired Prism Analytical Technologies, Inc.
“When CMURC began working with Prism, now Enthalpy, in 2010 the goal was to help the company grow and reach this stage in the business,” CMURC President + CEO Erin Strang said. “When we conducted focus groups in late 2015, we had slated a mixed-tenant facility focused on tech based companies. This aligns directly with that master plan.”
Prism gained national attention in 2015 when a report about formaldehyde in flooring boosted demand for its home air test. The company provides methods to detect volatile organic compounds in the air, such as formaldehyde, mold or other harmful materials for Fortune 500 companies, environmental consultants and homebuyers around the world.
Among other benefits, businesses such as Enthalpy Analytical gain greater access to CMU faculty experts, students and resources by locating in the SmartZone District.
“We are excited about this opportunity to not only expand the knowledge and expertise we offer our customers, but also our presence in the Mount Pleasant SmartZone,” Steven Eckard, senior vice president of Enthalpy Analytical, LLC said.
The Mount Pleasant City Commission voted to rezone the 300 acres of land near CMURC to be consistent with university zoning last fall. The plan for the Mount Pleasant SmartZone calls for sustainable designs that bring jobs and create a walkable and bikeable business experience.
The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees will approve land leases for proposed developments vetted by CMURC.
